Bio: Claire Lane is a dance artist, educator, and choreographer. She graduated summa cum laude in 2020 from Smith College with a B.A. in Dance and French Studies with the distinction of highest honors. A recipient of the Five College Dance Department Virginia K. Wagner Scholarship and the Smith College Excellence in Dance Studies award, she performed in works by Doug Varone, Bebe Miller, Ephrat Asherie, Angie Hauser, Chris Aiken, and Rodger Blum. During her undergraduate studies, Claire pursued training internationally at P.A.R.T.S under the direction of Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker in Belgium, and at Trinity Laban Conservatory in London.
Currently, she is a company member with Kairos Dance Theater and Abilities Dance Boston, and has freelanced with Holly Stone/StoneWorks Productions, Chavi Bansal, Haley Andrews/Andrews Movement, and Eliza Malecki Dance at esteemed venues including the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston and L.A. Dance Project. She is the co-founder and Artistic Visionary of detritus dance alongside collaborator Caroline Bradbury, a multidisciplinary collective centering feminist story-telling through contemporary dance, collage, and text. Their work has been presented throughout Greater Boston at The Dance Complex, The Cambridge Foundry, and the Somerville Armory with funding from the Somerville Arts Council and the New England Foundation for the Arts. Outside of her performance career, Claire serves as Administrative Assistant for VLA Dance and teaches Contemporary and Ballet to all levels of students from toddlers to adults. She regularly teaches professional level classes through Midday Movement Series, and has guest taught for the Urbanity Professional Company in addition to her role in the Youth programs.
